Head of Business Development
Sales & Business Development · Full-time
San Francisco, CA, USA
Why This Role, Why Now
Enterprises are moving to open-weight models, and they come to us in two shapes. Those with their own compute want their workflows run more efficiently on hardware they already own. Those without want an endpoint served for them. Both want help designing, managing, and optimizing the workflows on top.
Our observability and harness are open source, so developers inside those enterprises can be using us before procurement is involved. That is a rare opening in an enterprise sale.
We are ready for someone to own go-to-market, customer development, and business development full time. This is a founding-team role and we are hiring for it now.
About the Role
We are looking for a Head of Business Development to work directly with Canyon Code's CEO on how we go to market: which customers to go after, what our message should be, what the plan looks like, and what collateral and decks we need to make it land. Then you run it. The outreach, the scheduling, the meetings, the follow-up, and the constant refinement of both the message and the process based on what comes back. Strategy and execution sit in the same pair of hands here. There is no team to delegate to yet; you are building the motion that a team will later run.
You're a fit if you…
-
You have sold tokens and LLM endpoints into Enterprise AI. That is exactly what we are selling, and we want someone who has sold it before.
-
Strong preference for candidates who come from an inference provider such as Fireworks, Lightning, Baseten, Together, or Modal, where you led the sales effort.
-
You have built a go-to-market motion from nothing: the target list, the message, the collateral, the outreach cadence, and the follow-up discipline that makes it work.
-
A record of closing six and seven figure contracts in enterprise sales or business development for infrastructure or developer software.
-
You write the deck yourself, and you are willing to do the unglamorous parts: building lists, scheduling meetings, chasing follow-ups. At this stage there is nobody else to do them.
-
You treat messaging as a hypothesis. You can tell when it is not landing, and you change it rather than repeat it louder.
-
You understand the difference between an enterprise that runs its own compute and one that wants a managed endpoint, you can tell which a prospect is early, and you know why a bank, a carrier, or a retailer chooses to self-host rather than buy from a frontier lab.
-
You bring a network you can genuinely activate, and you know how to extend ours rather than only work your own.
-
You can hold a technical conversation with a staff engineer and a commercial one with a VP in the same meeting, without losing either of them.
-
You have turned customer conversations into product direction, and had the product team act on it.
-
You understand consumption and usage-based pricing, and can structure a deal around it.
-
Comfortable working shoulder to shoulder with a founder, including disagreeing with one.
-
Self-driven; thrives in ill-defined, ambiguous, early-stage work.
-
You bring relationships into Enterprise AI teams in financial services, telco, or retail.Plus
-
Experience selling into or partnering with colos and neoclouds.Plus
-
You have hired and managed a commercial team.Plus
Why Join
Our first business hire
The strategy, the message, the collateral, the process, and eventually the team are yours to create rather than inherit.
Strategy and execution, not one or the other
You will set the plan with the CEO in the morning and run the outreach yourself in the afternoon. If you want to only do one of those, this is the wrong role. If you have been waiting for a job where both are yours, this is it.
Shape the product, not just sell it
You will be closer to the buyer than anyone here. What you learn goes straight into refining the product and tightening the offering.
Something real to sell
CanyonOS is 3x better at harness scaling and 3x better at LLM serving, and we sell the outcome rather than components a customer has to wire into their own stack.
Path to commercial leadership
This role starts hands-on with a clear merit-based path to leading the commercial organization as it grows.
