Seattle, WA, USA
Posted on Jan 18, 2025

Company:

Electric Era was founded to electrify transportation by powering all of EV charging. Transitioning the global car refill supply chain to electricity will take decades of focused and intense work to solve the fundamental engineering challenges required to generate, store, transmit and distribute electricity for a global fleet of electric cars. Electric Era is actively building the technologies that make it possible to rapidly transition our car energy infrastructure to electricity, solving one of humanity's greatest challenges.

Role:

Electric Era is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to design EV fast charging stations throughout America. This role is responsible for making sure that our charging stations are built and connected to the grid rapidly and affordably at scale.

In this role you will own the site design of our battery backed EV charging station. You will be responsible for all mechanical, electrical and civil design work, leading utility and AHJ conversations and development, performing site assessments, and innovating the EV fast charging station site build processes.

You will work alongside Electric Era’s construction managers to solve real world constructability challenges and other mechanical and electrical engineers that design our next generation hardware products to ensure future station hardware can be rapidly built. You will be part of the team building the machine that builds thousands of EV fast charging stations per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the mechanical, electrical and civil site design of our battery backed EV charging station based on parameters from engineering and site acquisition teams.
  • Perform front-end site design, risk assessments and initial cost estimating to accelerate station construction.
  • Actively manage the utility relationship for distribution, transmission, and substation upgrades needed to obtain grid power service
  • Lead AHJ development work to optimize site designs and obtain permits by reviewing plans for right-of-way, easements, flood zones, and setbacks
  • Facilitate field site visits for due diligence on construction, engineering, utility, and cost. Provide site reports and sketches as needed
  • Drive design changes to address quality and design for constructibility (DFC) concerns to maximize quality and minimize field labor
  • Project manage station development including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, design vendors and solar vendors
  • Work with product and construction engineering to slash requirements, simplify designs, and optimize processes
  • Collaborate with hardware teams on build instructions, technician trainings and next generation product constructibility design optimization

Qualifications and Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a mechanical or manufacturing engineer in a professional setting
  • Familiarity with mechanical design and engineering drawing development
  • Fluency with one or more 2D or 3D CAD programs.
  • Proven full project ownership and delivery for complex and undefined design projects
  • Strong personal and professional project portfolio demonstrating practical capability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and hard driving attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
