About Electric Era

Electric Era was founded to decarbonize and electrify transportation by making EV charging widespread and affordable. Transitioning the global car refill supply chain to electric will take decades of focused and intense work to solve the fundamental engineering challenges required to generate, store, transmit and distribute electricity for a global fleet of electric cars. Today, Electric Era designs, implements, and manages a rapidly growing fleet of battery-backed DC fast charging stations across the US from our Seattle, WA facility. Coupling energy storage systems with fast charging allows us to minimize infrastructure upgrade requirements and decrease cost of electricity for our customers. This empowers us to rapidly deploy reliable charging across the US.

About the Role

We are hiring to support the development of our next generation charging station, a multidisciplinary hardware design effort aimed at further improving station uptime and charging reliability, enriching driver interactions, and streamlining construction and implementation timelines. Electric Era is pushing the envelope of the EV driver experience, we want interactions with our charging stations to feel seamless and futuristic. This presents several challenges from a mechanical engineering perspective, including innovative cooling approaches and next generation industrial design. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will work closely with a diverse team of engineers to co-design with tight mechanical constraints.

Mechanical Engineering Intern:

Electric Era is looking for exceptional students to fill engineering roles. As an intern, you'll collaborate closely with a mentor and other employees, applying your knowledge and developing your skills on high-impact projects. You'll also have opportunities to network and enjoy social and professional events with other interns and employees. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of academic success and a strong drive to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern you will own critical structural, fluid, and thermal systems that enable our safe, high-performance, and affordable charging stations. You will have direct ownership of subassemblies and will design with attention to cost analysis, design for manufacturing, and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with Electric Era engineering leadership to develop high performance hardware and improve your skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis and simulation spanning structural, thermal, fluid, and electrical domains
  • Design components, tooling, and manufacturing strategies for your subsystems
  • Oversee suppliers and manage the end-to-end procurement lifecycle for parts and assemblies
  • Support testing, instrumentation, and data analysis of key assemblies
  • Document and report key design criteria and test results in design reviews
  • Research and understand key regulatory & certification requirements and their impact on design

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering or related course of study
  • 3+ months of experience with application of technical skills and hands on work outside of the classroom. (examples: research, laboratory, extracurricular project teams, volunteering, personal projects or prior internship/work experience)
  • Ability to make and read mechanical drawings

Preferred Skills:

  • GPA of 3.5 or above
  • 6+ months of experience with application of technical skills and hands on work outside of the classroom.
  • Technical or leadership experience on a student team with a history of delivering projects
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs such as NX, Onshape, CATIA, SolidWorks, Creo, Pro/E, etc.
  • Courses completed: Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Circuits, and Machine Design
  • Experience with Environmental Testing (vibration and thermal)
  • Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)

Additional Requirements:

  • Able to work full time, onsite for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks
